Forty-Eight (2022)

ANDREW BYRNE is a composer and arts programmer whose creative work explores systems and process-based procedures. Living in New York for two decades, he immersed himself in American experimental-minimalist scene, which has had a profound impact on his own creative output. His work in artistic planning led to directorial roles at Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space. Andrew is now based in Naarm (Melbourne).

ASTRA MUSIC - Andrew has been appointed co-musical director of Astra. 2024 season will be announced later in April.
THE ELEVENTH HOUR - a performance space in Fitzroy, Melbourne, directed by Andrew, was launched in July 2023. The venue features adventurous music-making with an emphasis on experimental music.
PATTERNS OF PLANTS - the second program for Astra featured new arrangements of Mamoru Fujieda’s Patterns of Plants. Videos
THE RATIONAL MELODIES PROJECT - a program I curated with Astra Music in August 2022 included the Australian premiere of Tom Johnson’s Rational Melodies (complete) with responses by Warren Burt, David Chesworth, Wally Gunn, Kate Neal and Catherine Schieve. Videos
